The Company, with its Clerk to provide guidance and administrative assistance, is managed by a Court of Assistants – similar to a Board of Directors – which is responsible for running the Company. New Assistants are elected by the Court. The understanding is that Assistants will be prepared to become Master in the fullness of time if elected.
The Court normally comprises approximately 15 Assistants with the Master, Senior and Junior Wardens – each holding elected office for one year.
After a Master stands down, he or she remains a member of the Court for a further 5 years.
The Court delegates to a number of Committees the running of various activities of the Company. The current committees include:
