We are pleased to offer a reprint of the illustrated book
First printed in 1981, the book is based around the magnificent drawings produced by Howard Penton in 1904. Howard
produced these drawings at the age of 22 and they amongst others, including the first launch of a British Submarine,
were widely acclaimed and published. Howard, as a notable marine and landscape painter, exhibited at the Academy, the
Royal Institution of Painters in water colours and the Royal Society of Marine Artists. He was a life long member of
both the Langham Sketching Club and the Wapping Group and regarded the river from the pool down stream as his spiritual
home. The detail of the pencil drawings has to be seen to be believed. Whilst it records the Livery Halls as they existed
in 1904, many still remain or have been rebuilt, very much in the same style. This book is the only known historical
record of those halls.
It is an ideal coffee table book and in addition, at no cost, if you wish, a personal
dedication page including Coats of Arms etc. can be inserted - an ideal present to a fellow Liveryman.
Available for the inclusive price of £45 to cover postage, packing.
All proceeds from the sale go to charity.
Copies can be purchased at the Guildhall Book Shop, Library Book Shop and Museum of London Book Shop.
If you require to include a personal dedication page, telephone Brian Lamden on behalf of the Worshipful Company of
Chartered Surveyors, at AGL Reid Lamden 020 7491 4052 fax 020 7492 4027 or e-mail.
