Charitable Activities
In its short history, the Company has accumulated considerable charitable funds. The funds are held in Trust and
administered by the Members of the Court sitting as Trustees. Day to day management is by independent investment advisors
reporting to the Charitable Board appointed by the Trustees.
Income from the Charitable Funds is distributed in a number of areas:
- Funds are given to external charities chosen by the Company's Charitable Board. Examples of charities supported in recent years
include the Treloar Trust for disabled children, the Jubilee Sailing Trust and the Christchurch Youth & Community Centre at
Spitalfields. Funds are also donated to the Company's “adopted” schools in connection with the schools sponsorship scheme initiated
by our Educational Committee.
- The Toby Sutton Research Award provides a sum up to £3,000 per annum which may be used, for example, to sponsor
a major piece of research into a subject of topical interest to the property industry.
- The Funds give annual support to The Guildhall School of Music and Drama by sponsoring a String Quartet competition
and an annual bursary.
- The Funds support the Lord Mayor's nominated charities.
- Donations are made each year where particular requests are received to support students through University. Prizes
are given to the best students on property-related courses at the main Universities.
- The Company has affilliations and gives support by way of visits, prizes and donations; with the surveying/mapping
branches of the three armed forces.
Money for the Charitable Trust is raised from annual covenants, from monies raised from the City Seminar and the
Property Marketing Awards. Funds are also raised from the annual Inter-Livery Swimathon which has been organised for many years
by the Company.
