On Monday 16 August, the Master writes:
I am writing to appeal for additional volunteers willing to participate in the Abseil and to raise funds for our Charitable Trust in doing so. Participants do not have to be Liverymen (although we need as many of those as possible) but can be colleagues, family or friends.
We have some 40 volunteers already. However, the arrangements we have made for the day allow us to have up to 100 participants and we are therefore very keen to maximise the opportunity.
The event takes place on 9 September at the London International Press Centre, Shoe Lane in the City of London.
As well as our intrepid Clerk, no less than 8 members of your Court have agreed to take part. I am one of them (against my better judgement!) and so are the Senior Warden and also Michael Bear who, subject to the due processes, should become next year's Lord Mayor.
If you are prepared to join us and have some fun in doing so, please make contact as soon as possible with David Mann (e-mail). He can provide you with a time slot to suit you and with all necessary help to initiate your fund-raising.
Many thanks in anticipation of your support.
Kind regards
Laurence Johnstone
Master
